Video: Sixth letter bomb discovered in Spain

STORY: The number of letter bombs to high-ranking politicians, embassies and military establishments discovered in Spain rose to six on Thursday. In the afternoon, the receipt of a package for the US mission in Madrid was reported. It was blown up in a controlled manner by the police. Shortly before, Deputy Interior Minister Rafael Perez had said that according to initial findings, the five explosive devices known to date had been sent from within Spain. Given the recipients – including the Ukrainian embassy – there was speculation about a connection to the Ukraine war. The investigation was taken over by the country’s Supreme Court, which also has jurisdiction to prosecute terrorism. According to official information, the first letter bomb was sent to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on November 24. Then, on Wednesday, a security guard was injured when a package addressed to Ukraine’s ambassador to Spain exploded. In addition, an explosive device was received by an armaments company in Zaragoza. This manufactures C90 rocket launchers, of which Spain has delivered more than 1,000 to Ukraine. Letter bombs were also received at an EU satellite center and at the Spanish Defense Ministry on Thursday. The authorities initially gave no information about the alleged authors. A person close to the investigation said the bombs were homemade, but not something anyone could make. The safety precautions in the vicinity of public buildings had been tightened in connection with the incidents.
