In the USA, the Senate approved a bill for a transitional budget late on Thursday evening, thus preventing a shutdown. With 69 votes to 28, government funding was left at current levels until February 18. Without the short-term passage of the bill, funding would have run out at midnight on Friday. “I’m happy to announce the government stays open,” said Senate Democratic majority leader Chuck Schumer after the deal with the Republicans that cleared the way for the law to be passed. Now US President Joe Biden only has to sign the law for it to become final.
