Video: Scholz thanks business for solidarity with Ukraine

STORY: NOTE: This post will be broadcast without narration. O-Ton Olaf Scholz (SPD), Federal Chancellor: “And that’s why it’s like it was then: The free world didn’t give up West Berlin because it would have given up on itself. And so we can’t and mustn’t give up Ukraine today. That’s why we have we imposed unprecedented sanctions on Putin’s Russia. Sanctions that work. And I would like to thank you expressly for making it clear that the German economy supports these sanctions out of conviction. And of course we knew and we know that our solidarity with Ukraine will also have consequences. For example, that although there are no sanctions for gas and for imports, it can still happen that these corresponding deliveries no longer take place, as is mostly the case at the moment. And that’s why I want to expressly emphasize it again. I thank the German economy for the solidarity, for the attitude with which it is possible that we are together in this situation stand together. Many thanks for that. And we can say today that in January next year the first of these new terminals will start operations, pipeline connections will be expanded and built. And by the end of next year we may have import opportunities. In Wilhelmshaven, in Stade, in Brunsbüttel, in Lubmin. At least four places. And then we’re able to import all the gas we need. Independent of Russia. Who would have thought that this country could do it in such a short time? I’m very proud of that. We’ve made sure that coal-fired power plants come back online and that none go offline. This is also something that ensures that we use less gas to produce electricity. A necessary and right decision. And, Mr. Dulger, we will make sure that the southern German nuclear power plants can still run in January, February and March so that there are no bottlenecks in the German power grid. And after all these preparations, we can say now and in this situation that we will probably get through this winter. Who would have thought that a while ago? Our joint efforts have paid off. We’ll get through this winter and that’s good news at this time.”
