Video: Scholz – must be prepared for threats

STORY: Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the Bundeswehr’s Territorial Command in Berlin on Tuesday. He was welcomed there by commander Carsten Breuer. After a tour of the Territorial Command’s facilities in the Julius Leber barracks, Scholz spoke to the assembled soldiers and officers. “If you look at the pace, you get the impression that it’s going to be something and that we’ll actually do our job. And I have the impression that it’s also the case that everyone is internally motivated and now at a faster pace, than was perhaps the case in the past. That is reassuring news for me if I can summarize what I have experienced so far here. And of course an incentive that we do exactly continue like this, because that is indeed what we have newly learned, that we cannot rely on the fact that it is only a matter of helping somewhere in the world with our abilities, but that it is also a matter of alliance – and to organize national defense in such a way that we are armed against threats and that it doesn’t come to that at all.” The Territorial Command is responsible for the management and coordination of Bundeswehr operations in Germany. In times of peace, this primarily affects administrative and disaster relief by the Bundeswehr, as was the case recently during the flood disaster on the Ahr or the support services in the Corona crisis.
