STORY: After Hurricane Ian passed through the US coast, the authorities are trying to get an idea of the extent of the damage. Drone and satellite images show how violently the hurricane raged. About 10,000 people are still missing, according to the head of emergency management in the state of Florida. Many of them are probably in emergency shelters. So far there have been more than 20 confirmed deaths. Governor Ron DeSantis said many of the older homes were simply washed into the sea. Most recently, it is believed that almost 1.9 million households and companies were without electricity. “Ian” has since weakened into a post-tropical cyclone. According to the National Hurricane Center, the danger is not over yet. Storm surges and strong winds should continue to be expected in North and South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, it said. Before “Ian” reached the US coast on Wednesday, the hurricane had already caused severe damage in Cuba and a nationwide power outage. In some parts of Havana, people have been sitting in the dark since Tuesday night. Demonstrators marched through the streets of the Cuban capital on Friday in protest. They shouted “turn on the lights” and slogans directed against the country’s socialist government.
