VIDEO SHOWS: Broadcast: None. Digital: None. STORY: There were anti-war protests in several Russian cities on Thursday. The police cracked down on the demonstrators. A civil rights portal reported that at least 1,700 people were arrested at rallies in more than 50 cities. According to the information, the largest protests took place in the capital Moscow, where more than 950 people were arrested. Among other things, the demonstrators shouted “No to war!” and “Russia is against war”. There were also larger rallies in the metropolises of Yekaterinburg and St. Petersburg. Here, too, the police cracked down on the demonstrators, and the rallies were broken up. The Russian authorities had previously banned protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and threatened those who took part in such rallies with fines.
