Video: Protester being dragged onto Chinese consulate premises and beaten

STORY: During a protest action in front of the Chinese consulate in Manchester, riots broke out on Sunday. A demonstrator was apparently dragged onto the consulate premises and beaten. Manchester Police are investigating the incident. Protesters had set up banners and slogans against the ruling Chinese Communist Party and President Xi Jinping in front of the consulate. Video showed several men from the consulate, some wearing helmets and body armor, taking down banners and grabbing a man and dragging him into consulate grounds during a heated confrontation with protesters. Local English police officers eventually entered the gate and pulled the man out. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said in Beijing on Monday that he was unaware of the situation but that Chinese officials were acting in accordance with international diplomatic agreements. Sunday’s protest came on the first day of the five-year congress of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.
