Video: Peru: Protests against transitional government now also in Lima

STORY: Now the protests against the interim government in Peru have also reached the capital Lima. Thousands of people took to the streets on Thursday to demonstrate against the ousting of President Pedro Castillo. While the protests in Lima were largely peaceful, the outcome of the demonstrations that have been going on for weeks is dramatic. Dozens of people have been killed in clashes between security forces and angry citizens. Peru has been rocked by nationwide unrest since the ouster and arrest of leftist President Castillo in early December. The demonstrators protest against Castillo’s disempowerment and demand the resignation of his successor Dina Boluarte, who was previously vice president. They are also demanding that parliament be dissolved and new elections held.
