Novavax vaccination begins
STORY: The vaccination center in Saarbrücken is among the first to administer the new Novavax vaccine, which is to be used across the board from the end of February. Novavax is linked to the hope that the vaccination rate could skyrocket again – because, according to the theory, those who are skeptical about mRNA vaccines could be convinced by the protein vaccine Novavax. This applies to the vaccinated Christian Spiegel: “I was waiting for the new vaccine because I’m more in favor of classic vaccination and don’t (have) any trust with these messengers, like Biontech or the others.” In Saarbrücken, however, many chairs remained empty on Saturday. Werner Trierweiler, medical director of the vaccination center, expressed his disappointment. “People already thought that this new vaccine would trigger a big boom, where many have unfounded fears of the old, established, unfounded fears. There are a few who have come, as expected, because of Novavax, but there are absolutely a lot too few.” The federal government is currently expecting 1.4 million doses of Novavax, which will then be distributed to the federal states in a timely manner and used primarily for staff in medical facilities.
The protein vaccine is linked to the hope of an increase in the vaccination rate. When it started at the Saarland vaccination center in Saarbrücken, however, demand was low.
