Video: Musk takes over Twitter – and fires top manager

STORY: After some back and forth, the mega deal is now actually taking place. Tesla boss Elon Musk became the new owner of the US short message service Twitter on Thursday and, according to insiders, fired the first top managers. According to people familiar with the matter and media reports, Musk fired Twitter boss Parag Agrawal, as well as the chief financial officer and the head of the legal and political department. The billionaire had accused them of misleading him and Twitter investors about the number of fake accounts on the social media platform. Two of the managers were at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters when the deal was finalized. Both were escorted out, the sources added. Twitter, Musk and executives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Musk announced in April that he wanted to acquire Twitter for $44 billion. In July, referring to alleged false statements by Twitter about the number of bogus accounts on the platform, he then declared that he would not complete the purchase. Complaints followed. With this move, the richest man in the world is taking over one of the most influential media platforms ever. Recently, in addition to alleged conversion plans of the service, a possible job cut on Twitter was also in the room.
