Video: Mourning in London: friends and fashion fans remember Vivienne Westwood

STORY: Mourning for Dame Vivienne Westwood. More than seven weeks after her death at the end of December, prominent friends and fashion fans gathered in London to commemorate the fashion icon with a service. Celebrities from film, music and fashion were there – such as actresses Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter and Elle Fanning. Also present were designer Victoria Beckham, model Kate Moss and Vivienne’s husband Andreas Kronthaler. Westwood was considered an icon of 1970s punk rock. The rebellious attitude remained her trademark. The designer, who died at the age of 81, addressed climate change, pollution and her support for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, including on protest T-shirts or banners worn by her models on the catwalk of her fashion shows. Many guests at her memorial service were dressed in Westwood’s designs. The commemoration took place a day before the start of London Fashion Week on Friday, when designers will showcase their latest collections. The five-day fashion week will be dedicated to Vivienne Westwood.
