Middle East conflict: rocket fire and attack in the Gaza Strip
The Middle East conflict could escalate. Missiles are said to be visible over Israel, shot down by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli military, these fired two rockets into the Mediterranean Sea early on Saturday morning and caused an explosion off the coast of Tel Aviv. According to the police, there was no damage. The incident was, of course, an issue on the banks of Tel Aviv. An eyewitness described his observations as follows: “We wanted to fish, it was raining. We saw rockets overhead, then the explosion in the sea. We were sure that the rockets came from Gaza.” Initially, no militant group claimed responsibility for the explosion. According to the military, Israel attacked militant Palestinian bases in the Gaza Strip after dark. The radio station of the radical Islamic Hamas reported that Israeli planes and tanks had attacked the group’s security posts and a training camp. There were initially no reports of possible victims. Hamas has occasionally fired test missiles towards the sea in the past. However, a news website affiliated with Hamas reported that the current shooting down was likely caused by a malfunction.
