Many dead in floods in India
Floods triggered by heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in the southern Indian state of Kerala on Monday. As can be seen in these pictures, a house on the bank of a river was swept away by the raging currents. Many flood victims lost everything they owned, such as Shahul Hameed: “At around 11pm the water entered my house with full force and all items were lost. We are unable to find the items in our house. We we only have the clothes we are wearing. We appeal to the government to grant us compensation. It didn’t rain as much last year as it did this year. ” The last time there was a similarly strong flood was in 2018. Even then, many people had to experience the same fate as Hameed. According to the local authorities, at least 22 people have already died during this year’s flood – at least 19 died in a landslide alone. On Monday, weather experts forecast further rainfalls for the coming days.
