Video: Life sentences after downing of passenger plane MH17

STORY: A Dutch court has found three men guilty of murder in the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine. These are two former Russian intelligence agents and a Ukrainian separatist leader. They all received life sentences in absentia on Thursday and are expected to pay at least 16 million euros to the victims’ relatives. A fourth man was acquitted. Shortly after the verdict was announced, a representative of the Russian judiciary stated that none of the convicted Russians would be extradited. The Foreign Ministry in Moscow said that throughout the trial the court was under unprecedented pressure from Dutch politicians, prosecutors and the media to achieve a politically desired result. The three perpetrators have gone into hiding and are believed to be in Russia. Russia has previously denied any responsibility for the downing.
