What takes a long time will eventually be finished – this is how the career of the ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 can be described. Lenovo unveiled the folding device with a large 16-inch OLED in the summer of 2022 and demonstrated it at trade fairs such as the IFA.

After that, however, the marketing drumbeat fell silent: the delivery dates that had been announced again and again all passed until Lenovo no longer gave any more when asked.
At the beginning of 2024, the ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 Gen 1 went on sale and joined the ZenBook 17 Fold from Asus, which had been available for around a year. You cannot buy other devices in this special design in this country: HP and LG only deliver their conceptually similar Specter Fold and Gram Fold to their respective home markets of the USA and South Korea.
