Iran with IAEA: Roadmap for agreement on nuclear dispute agreed

STORY: On Saturday, Iran agreed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on a roadmap to clarify open questions about its nuclear program. The move is seen as a further push for a renewal of the international nuclear agreement from 2015. Tehran has agreed to hand over documents on the outstanding issues to the atomic energy agency by the end of June, said the head of Iran’s nuclear program, Mohammad Eslami, at a joint press conference with the IAEA – Boss Rafael Grossi. Regarding the situation of the nuclear power plants in Ukraine, he said: “We are following the situation very, very closely – we have always done that, but after the events of the night from Thursday to Friday we have of course followed it even more closely. I can say that we – a bit modestly – received, for example, the shift of the staff at the nuclear power plant”. He will travel to Ukraine himself as soon as possible. According to Ukraine, the Russian army attacked Europe’s largest nuclear power plant northeast of Cherson early on Friday morning. According to the IAEA, the reactor was not damaged.

Talks between Iran, the USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, France and Germany have been taking place in Vienna since April. In 2018, under then-President Donald Trump, the USA unilaterally withdrew from the international nuclear agreement and again imposed tough economic sanctions. A year later, Iran began ramping up its uranium enrichment as announced, thereby violating the terms of the agreement.
