Insider – Shanghai plans to relax corona restrictions

STORY: The Chinese economic and financial metropolis of Shanghai is preparing to relax the corona restrictions that have been imposed. The aim is to stop the spread of the virus outside of quarantine zones by Wednesday, two insiders said. This requires the authorities to speed up testing and send people who test positive to quarantine centers, according to a speech dated Saturday by a local representative of the Communist Party. Shanghai is currently considered the epicenter of the largest wave of infections in China since the outbreak in Wuhan in late 2019. The authorities had imposed a lockdown for parts of Shanghai on March 28 and for the entire city on April 1. Many frustrated Shanghai residents are taking to social media to vent about the difficulties in finding food, lost income, separated families and poor conditions in central quarantine centers. The tensions had also erupted in public protests or scuffles with the police.
