In memory of the socialist politicians Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, people from all parts of the left-wing political spectrum laid carnations and wreaths at the socialist memorial in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde. the social democrats Luxemburg and Liebknecht founded the KPD at the beginning of 1919 and were murdered shortly afterwards on January 15th by soldiers of the Reichswehr. The chairman of the left parliamentary group Dietmar Bartsch laid a wreath with his co-chairman Amira Mohamed Ali. “This day has a very great tradition. Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht were social democrats for life and then founded the Communist Party for 14 days. They are in the tradition of democratic socialism and today is a commemoration of the many high points of our movement, but also to the lows. This start of the year is one where the traditions should be preserved. ” According to the market research institute Ipsos, half of the people around the world think that socialist ideals are of great value for the social process today. In Germany, 45 percent of those surveyed support this view.
