“How do we want to live?” – Frankfurt Book Fair starts on Wednesday
After a long corona-related break, the Frankfurt Book Fair will open its doors again on Wednesday. A total of more than 1,500 exhibitors from over 70 countries will be there. 25,000 visitors are allowed to visit the site every day. This year’s book show is all about seeing you again. Karin Schmidt-Friedrichs, Head of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels: “Corona has thrown our world out of sync and now that it looks as if we have the worst behind us, we are almost on the verge of a fresh start. To set the course, to make course corrections, even those that, to be honest, would have long been necessary – to make fundamental decisions. That is why the central question of this book fair is ‘How do we want to live?’ “How do we want to live? Jürgen Boos, Director of the Book Fair, asked himself this question: “Our industry thrives on informing the public, illuminating the background, clarifying issues. Fulfilling this task has value. Debates go viral in no time, the tone intensifies , the echo chambers vibrate. But in order to be able to make a well-founded contribution, we have to do one thing above all: listen to each other. ” Guest of Honor Canada has sent a literary delegation, including nine important authors and illustrators. The Book Fair on the Main looks back on 500 years of tradition. Shortly after Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, a book fair was established in Frankfurt. Only during the Enlightenment did Leipzig become the book city par excellence. After the division of Germany, the Frankfurt Book Fair was brought back to life in 1949 by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels.
Around 25,000 visitors are allowed daily. 1,500 exhibitors from over 70 countries are represented. Canada is the guest of honor.
