He is likely to be the main rival of the more established right-wing populist Marine Le Pen in the fight for a place in the runoff election. In surveys, however, it was recently weaker. Most opinion polls currently predict a runoff between incumbent President Emmanuel Macron and Le Pen in April and see Macron as a favorite.
