STORY: Any rescue came too late for the Arctic beaked whale, which was stranded in northern France on Monday. Jerome Gressier, a specialist from a national non-governmental organization that investigates such cases: “People walking on the beach spotted the whale in the morning and it was still alive. When the rescue efforts were launched, the tide was also coming and the waves were ripping it back and forth. Now is deceased.” The almost 7.5 meter long marine mammal was discovered near Calais. According to the specialist Gressier, however, such incidents are rather rare compared to seals or porpoises that appear lifeless at the beach. Experts now want to examine the dead whale more closely.
