Flying skirts: party mood in La Paz
STORY: With flying skirts – the polleras – these Bolivian women got into the ring at the weekend. Cholita wrestlers competed against each other in La Paz at a street festival that showcased elements of indigenous Aymara culture and modern Bolivia. “ElectroPreste is a celebration that takes place every year, during the carnival season, in the cities of El Alto and La Paz. People from the interior also participate. It’s time to commemorate our values, culture and identity. ” This man came from Ecuador and is happy about new old freedoms: “We can be happy again without a face mask. The pandemic is still here and we are taking care of ourselves, but I think the vaccinations have had an effect. We have to present ourselves as reopen society.” Every year, people from the province and from the capital region come together. In 2021, however, the ElectroPreste was canceled due to the pandemic.
