Video: Floods in Chad | STERN.de

STORY: In Chad, people are currently struggling with the heaviest rainfall in the last 30 years. The rain has flooded parts of the capital N’djamena. Sometimes you can only get there by boat. Thousands have lost their homes and apartments. “I am a widow with children, our house collapsed because of the floods and now we are homeless and have no money. We have been here for three weeks and nobody comes to help us. We are at the mercy of the mosquitoes, we have nothing to do eat and some of us have malaria. No one thinks to help us, the authorities look at us from afar as if we were migratory birds”. According to the state meteorological agency, Chad has not recorded such amounts of rain since 1990. Several cities in the country have been under water in recent weeks. Floods are not uncommon during the Central African country’s rainy season. This year, however, the rains came earlier and were heavier. According to the latest figures from UN aid organizations, more than 440,000 people have been affected by the floods this year.
