Video: Earthquake victims: deep sorrow at the mass graves

STORY: The grief of the relatives can hardly be put into words. Because the massive tremors of Monday, February 6th, in the border area between Turkey and Syria already have historic dimensions. Over 43,000 victims have been officially registered so far. And many missing people are still suspected under the rubble. And everyone has their own sad story. Like this one. A survivor of the earthquake tells: Hüseyin Akis, survivor in Pazarcık: “We waited for ten days by the fire near the collapsed building to take the bodies of the deceased out of the rubble. Ten days. This man here and my nephew Mustafa , who is a victim’s brother, fought to get an excavator over here to dig up the bodies.” In the ten cities in southern Turkey affected by the earthquake, mass graves have now been dug to bury tens of thousands of victims. In wintry temperatures, many people are often accommodated in makeshift tents. But, at least, they’re still alive and have a roof over their heads. But despite this, many survivors are growing angry at what they consider to be corrupt building practices, which may also have led to thousands of buildings collapsing like houses of cards in the dramatic morning hours of February 6th.
