STORY: These are dramatic pictures taken by eyewitnesses in Peru. Cyclone Yaku has unleashed torrential rain and flooding in many parts of the country. Numerous houses were destroyed and many people had to seek safety from the floods. At least six people died as a result of the storm. The full extent of the damage is not yet foreseeable. Peru’s President Dina Boluarte declared the capital Lima and the surrounding areas on red alert in a televised address on Tuesday. The authorities of the Peruvian weather service said on Tuesday that it can be assumed that the situation will ease over the next few days. According to the National Institute for Civil Defense, almost 60 people have died since the rainy season began in Peru.
