David Beckham hands over to “Irina”
STORY: He’s handing over his social media channel to Irina, the head of the regional perinatal center in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where she helps pregnant women deliver, according to former soccer star David Beckham. With these words he made his reach on Instagram available to the doctor on Sunday. The former England captain has more than 71 million followers on the photo and video platform. In peacetime, she is a children’s anesthesiologist, according to Irina, whose last name was not given. “Today I show how we work in war. And I tell who we became during these days of war,” she says. Kharkiv was recently one of the most heavily attacked by Russian troops. The doctor posted videos from a basement, which she says pregnant women and mothers used to save themselves on the first day of the invasion. She also shared images of infants dependent on oxygen equipment that Unicef previously donated. Beckham also called on his supporters to support UNICEF and its work in Ukraine.
