Corona lockdown in Shanghai: residents of certain districts are allowed to leave their apartments

STORY: Images released by Chinese state television on Tuesday show footage of people being discharged from makeshift hospital wards in Shanghai. A day earlier, on Monday, more than 22,000 asymptomatic and almost 1,000 corona cases with symptoms had been reported. According to the broadcaster, the city administration is trying to maintain the food supply for the population. Around 800 employees are said to have stayed overnight in supermarkets in order to be able to pack as much food as possible and deliver it to districts that are under strict lockdown. After the latest easing in districts without new infections in the past 14 days, residents were able to leave their homes this week. However, parts of the population still seem to be unclear about the actually permitted range of movement. According to the authorities, the recent corona outbreak in Shanghai is not yet under control. Overall, it is expected that the number of new infections will remain comparatively high.
