Video: coalition argues about burner off

STORY: NOTE: YOU WILL RECEIVE THIS CONTRIBUTION WITHOUT VOICE TEXT. O-TON FEDERAL TRANSPORT MINISTER VOLKER WISSING (FDP): “We also need an answer to the question of how we will deal with combustion engines after 2035, which can only be fueled with synthetic fuels. We are convinced that we need every technological solution to to achieve our ambitious climate protection goals and to keep society mobile. That is why we have agreed to initiate the procedure for the regulation of fleet limit values. However, this is subject to the condition that the EU Commission makes a proposal on how to get involved synthetic fuels and the approval of internal combustion engines after 2035. Unfortunately, this proposal has not materialized and has not yet been submitted, meaning that the Federal Republic of Germany cannot agree to the current trilogue result. […] The decisive factor is that we now get a clear commitment from the EU Commission on how it envisages this regulation. We can also make suggestions ourselves. That would have been the subject of my talks with Mr Timmermans if he had wanted to have them. Now it’s about getting this question answered, having a regulation proposal, which we will then look at and then it can all happen very quickly. But the fact that this question remains unanswered and that we decide to phase out combustion engines, so to speak, and that the principle of hope remains alone in the future, we will not get involved with that. But the EU Commission knew that, because talks were also being held between the Chancellor and the President of the Commission at the time. And I think the position of the FDP is crystal clear.”
