“Car Jitsu” – wrestling in the car is becoming more and more popular in Russia
This is not about the car keys or the selection of the radio station, but about winning a car-jitsu duel. The new sport is enjoying increasing popularity among Russians: wrestling in the car. Car – for car, and Jitsu – based on the Brazilian form of Jiu Jitsu. Sometimes something breaks with car-jitsu. Wrestler Dimtry Sergeev: “I wanted to get a car like that. I liked it. But we saw that when two people sit in it it becomes problematic.” The fight lasts two rounds, with each contestant starting in either the driver’s or passenger’s seat and alternating between rounds. The points are awarded for achieving an advantageous position in combat. The key to victory lies in using the environment creatively, said the organizers. Wrestling trainer and black belt winner in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Leonid Gatovskiy: “It’s good to bring innovations to traditional sports too. If the new is interesting for the audience, we can work with it.” Everything in the car, including the seat belts, steering wheel, mirrors, and seats, can be used to gain the upper hand. The event on Saturday in Moscow was the first ever official car jitsu competition. Will this sport one day become Olympic?
