Baerbock – “Crimes on behalf of state agencies of the Russian Federation”

FOREIGN MINISTER ANNALENA BAERBOCK (GREEN): “In his indictment, the Federal Prosecutor came to the conclusion that this crime was committed on behalf of government agencies in the Russian Federation. The court agreed with this view in today’s verdict. […] This murder on behalf of the state, as determined by the court today, represents a serious violation of German law and the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Germany. We have therefore just summoned the Russian ambassador for a meeting. The ambassador was informed that two members of the diplomatic staff of the Russian embassy were being declared undesirable. […] Yesterday I spoke to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov on the phone and confirmed that we want and need an open and honest exchange with Russia in the interests of both of us. This must take place on the basis of international law and mutual respect. It is very clear that acts like the murder in the zoo weigh heavily on this exchange. The federal government will do everything it takes to guarantee security in our country and respect for our legal system. Thank you very much.”
Two Russian diplomats were declared “undesirable persons” after a court found that the zoo murder was carried out on behalf of the state.
