STORY: The niece of the Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for the international isolation of the Islamic Republic. All relations with the government in Tehran would have to be severed, the human rights activist explained in a video message that became public over the weekend. The relative of the most powerful man in Iran justified her call with the violent action taken by security forces against demonstrators. Farideh Moradchani, whose father was Khamenei’s brother-in-law, was apparently arrested before the video was released. According to the US-based human rights organization, she is being held in Tehran’s Evin Security Prison.
