Video: Asian stock exchanges take a breather after a turbulent week

STORY: The stock exchanges in Asia took a breather at the end of the week after all the turbulence. They were much stronger on Friday. Investors breathed a sigh of relief as the European Central Bank (ECB) hiked interest rates by 50 basis points and not least because of the Swiss National Bank’s (SNB) massive support for Credit Suisse, which sent shares of the troubled lender up 20 percent. Still, after all the turmoil, and fears of another global financial crisis, countries like Japan have been on edge. Japan’s Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Friday that the Financial Services Authority will coordinate closely with the Bank of Japan and other countries’ financial authorities given the potential risks. According to the analysts from Capital Economics, despite all the rescue measures, there is still a great deal of uncertainty. Because the past week has again provided an unwelcome reminder of the clear fragility of the banking systems.
