Video: anti-Semitism commissioner Blume sued Twitter

STORY: Baden-Württemberg’s anti-Semitism commissioner Michael Blume wants to use summary proceedings before the Frankfurt Regional Court to force the short message service Twitter to delete alleged false statements about him. He accuses the company of being responsible for spreading defamation. Blume’s lawyer, Chan-jo Jun, argued that not only had Twitter repeatedly unblocked illegal content, but it had also subsequently refused to delete it. On the platform, for example, it was claimed that he cheated on his wife with minors, said Blume: “Every family man, every mother can probably imagine when such content disappears and reappears. Disappears and reappears. And That’s why I asked the court to say: Twitter, that doesn’t work that way. If you delete it, then it must remain deleted.” It’s about the question of how much hate speech can be spread on Twitter, said Blume. His lawyer Chan-jo Jun interpreted the first signals from the court as positive: “We don’t really care how Twitter achieves its goal. Twitter’s obligation is to properly check reported illegal content and then remove it. Plus: then also future content “Removing content that has the same core content. It doesn’t really matter to us whether this works with algorithms or not. Because Twitter can’t be heard with it, it’s too expensive or too complex. The Chamber seemed quite open to it. ” Twitter could not immediately be reached for comment. A verdict is expected on December 14th.
