Video: Almost a week after the tremor: rescue team rescues woman and boy from the rubble

STORY: In the Turkish city of Kahramanmaras, a rescue team from El Salvador pulled a woman and a child out of the rubble on Sunday, almost a week after the devastating earthquake in the south of the country and in Syria. After being rescued, both were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the rescuers. Overall, the chances of finding more survivors of the earthquake are decreasing. Most recently, the number of deaths in Turkey and Syria exceeded the 33,000 mark – and it is likely to continue to rise. The Turkish government announced a crackdown on possible construction defects in the disaster area. So far, 131 suspects have been identified who could be responsible for the collapse of tens of thousands of buildings, Vice President Fuat Oktay said on Sunday. In Turkey alone, 29,605 deaths were counted by Sunday. Last Monday’s earthquake and its aftershocks are considered the deadliest that Turkey has experienced since 1939.
