$ 380 million for Nassar abuse victims
Numerous victims of the convicted sex offender Larry Nassar, long-time doctor of the US gymnastics association, are to be compensated with a sum of around 380 million dollars. This was announced by a lawyer for some victims on Monday. As the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, the settlement covers claims of Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney, who are among Nassar’s most famous victims of sexual abuse. “That evening I was naked, completely alone, and he molested me for hours.” As part of the deal, USA Gymnastics and the Olympic Committee also agreed to give some of their board seats to victims and introduce new guidelines to protect athletes. The doctor responsible for US gymnastics for 18 years was sentenced to 60 years in prison in 2017. The following year, he was also sentenced to 175 years in Michigan for molesting gymnasts under his care.
