Victory in Frankfurt: Munich consolidates championship lead

Status: 02/26/2022 8:50 p.m

FC Bayern is comfortably heading towards its tenth championship in a row. The Munich team won at Eintracht Frankfurt and thus consolidated their lead in the table.

Leroy Sané scored the goal in the 1-0 win on Saturday (February 26th, 2022), which was deserved due to the clear superiority. Bayern have a nine-point lead over Borussia Dortmund, who are playing at FC Augsburg, at least until Sunday.

Frankfurt lost a Bundesliga game for the third time in a row without scoring a goal. As a result, qualifying for the European Cup again is a long way off.

“Stop it, Putin!”

“Stop it, Putin!” the Frankfurters called on the Russian President and aggressor Waldimir Putin to end the war of aggression against Ukraine via the video cube before kick-off.

In addition to his captain’s armband, Robert Lewandowski wore an armband in the national colors of Ukraine. The centre-forward had previously welcomed the fact that his Polish association did not want to play in the play-off in the World Cup qualifiers against Russia.

Rapid start

After the minute of silence for the victims of the war, an attractive football match began. Jamal Musiala, who replaced Thomas Müller, who was again infected with the corona virus, missed two good chances for Bayern early on on his 19th birthday. But Eintracht also had a brilliant opportunity to take the lead through Filip Kostic.

After a quarter of an hour the game calmed down a bit in front of at least 25,000 spectators in the Frankfurt stadium.

Kevin Trapp with several saves

Kevin Trapp, who made an outstanding save in Eintracht’s 2-1 win in the first leg, showed his skills with a long-range shot from Kingsley Coman (24′). Bayern dominated the game and again just missed the lead after a header from Lewandowski (34′). Then Trapp was the focus again, who dropped a shot from Joshua Kimmich, but then made up for his mistake with Coman’s follow-up shot (39th).

N’Dicka with a spectacular rescue

The dominance of Munich increased in the second half. Evan N’Dicka, one of three Frankfurt central defenders, cleared spectacularly just before the line with a header (53′), Trapp just as remarkable against Lewandowski (60′).

Only Leroy Sané, who came on as a substitute four minutes earlier, overcame the Eintracht goalkeeper. After a precise pass from Kimmich, Sané made it 1-0 for the champions with a low shot (71st). The goal of the “Joker” should be enough for Bayern’s 19th win of the season.
