Ex-angel Erin Heatherton took appetite suppressants called ‘bath water meth’

She gave herself injections like a diabetic, and her therapist later called her slimming pills “bath water meth”. Erin Heatherton, former Victoria’s Secret angel, shares a podcast about what she did to stay slim.
Because she was afraid of losing her job as a model, Erin Heatherton, a former Victoria’s Secret angel, took tons of pills and injected hormones. The pressure to stay slim was so high that she went to a celebrity nutritionist who “advised me to use appetite suppressants that my therapist later called ‘bathwater meth’,” the 32-year-old tells im Podcast “Fallen Angel”. The audio documentation deals with controversial practices of the underwear company.
Erin Heatherton went downhill at 25
Heatherton wore the signature angel wings for five years. In 2013, she dropped out and publicly stated the pressure the company put on her to keep her weight off. “It went downhill when I was 25,” she says. “I got a bit bigger. Now, in retrospect, I know it’s biology, that’s how the body works. You are a different size at 18 than at 25”.
In desperation, Heatherton turned to a doctor. “Help me lose weight, how do other people do it?” She asked. The medical professional prescribed Phentermine, an appetite suppressant that is also popular as a party pill. To do this, she injected hormones into her stomach, “like a diabetic”. “I was so against everything I did back then, even though my reluctance was almost physically painful,” said Erin Heatherton.
Victoria’s Secret was in crisis a few years ago after sales fell and models and other employees complained about working conditions. The women who act as angels for the lingerie company are among the best paid in the industry. Confronted by Heatherton’s remarks, a spokesman said indirectly affirming: “Victoria’s Secret has new leadership behind the brand’s transformation.”
