“For me, ‘Let’s Dance’ is the most beautiful show on German television,” enthuses Victoria Swarovski in an interview.

“Let’s Dance” starts on February 18 (8:15 p.m., RTL and RTL +) in the anniversary season. There is also an anniversary for Victoria Swarovski (28). For the native Austrian, it is already the fifth season alongside her moderator colleague Daniel Hartwich (43). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, she looks back on the past few years and gives her first assessment of the candidates for the current season.

The fifth season of “Let’s Dance” is now waiting for you as a moderator. What does this anniversary mean to you?

Victoria Swarovski: I feel incredibly honored and I am very grateful to all those responsible. For me, “Let’s Dance” is the most beautiful show on German television. We are a family and it is a highlight every year to moderate together with Daniel on Friday evenings. I feel very comfortable in this position and would of course be very happy if I could do the job for at least another five years.

How nervous are you before the live shows, do you have a special ritual?

Swarovski: Over time, the nervousness has subsided, you become more experienced. But the adrenaline still shoots in when we’re backstage and you know it’s about to start and many millions of people will be there live. That is and remains something special that I would no longer want to do without in my life.

Which moments from the last few years do you remember the most?

Swarovski: The first thing that comes to mind is our male duo Nicolas and Vadim. Both of them did incredibly well. I was also particularly impressed by the performance of Renata and Valentin Lusin in the professional challenge. I just loved the idea of playing chess, both of them are great. As far as I’m concerned, of course, there’s the moment when I almost shot Daniel with the confetti cannon. That was a bit embarrassing, I was turning in the wrong direction the whole time.

What do you think of this year’s candidates?

Swarovski: I think we have an exciting mix of very different characters again this year. We also have a lot of candidates in the field who can move very well, which will create a lot of excitement. In any case, I’m really looking forward to getting to know our celebs better over the course of the season and wish everyone a wonderful time with us.

Which stars do you trust most with the “Dancing Star” crown?

Swarovski: As I said before, I believe that many of our celebrities can move very well. We will see in the first shows whether this will ultimately be the case. Basically, as a moderator, I am neutral and keep my fingers crossed for every candidate. In the end, of course, whoever dances the best and gets the most calls should win.

You are also private friends with the candidate Amira Pocher. Don’t you keep your fingers crossed for her?

Swarovski: That’s right, Amira and I know each other well. Our home country of Austria also connects us. But I stick to it, I’m neutral and I’d like everyone to win equally. I know from my own experience that it’s a long and arduous journey and in the end it’s the audience who decides who “Dancing Star 2022” will be.

With Massimó Sinato and Ekaterina Leonova, two of the audience’s favorite professional dancers are returning. How much have you missed the past few seasons?

Swarovski: I am very happy that the two are back at the start. They are both veterans of “Let’s Dance” and absolute audience favorites. Nevertheless, it’s also nice that other dancers get a chance and can show what they’re made of. I’m very excited to see if Ekat will continue her winning streak straight away. Both will definitely be back for a long time and it will be super exciting to see who will make it to the final and win the season.

The current “Let’s Dance” season must also take place again under special corona measures. What do these look like in concrete terms?

Swarovski: We have a very strict hygiene concept, all participants are closely tested. No one is allowed into the studio without first taking a test. Of course, care is also taken on site to ensure that the distances are maintained, that everyone involved is vaccinated anyway.

The contact with the participants has always been very warm, how difficult is it for you to do without hugs and kisses?

Swarovski: I’m a person of the heart, especially after a judgment that may not be so good, of course you want to hug and comfort the candidates. But due to the current situation, that’s not possible and that’s okay for everyone involved.
