Victim of a severe crash on the first lap of the Spanish GP, Quartararo was able to take the second start

The start of the Spanish GP of MotoGP was marked by a heavy fall which resulted in two motorcycles including that of Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), the 2021 world champion, who had started in 16th position on the grid. The incident caused a red flag and the interruption of the race.

During the second turn n°2, turning right, the French rider slipped, apparently hampered by Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati). He then hit the Italian, crashed and took Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) with him. Quartararo remained on the ground for a few minutes then was seen limping. But he doesn’t appear to be suffering from serious injuries and was able to make the second start.

However, this is not the case for Oliveira who has complained of pain in one arm and is in the process of undergoing medical examinations. The Portuguese was declared unfit to resume racing. Fabio Quartararo was deemed responsible for the fall by the race management and received a long lap penalty.
