Some books have to be defended against their own titles. “The crisis-proof child”. Sounds more like an object than a person: the weatherproof hut. The waterproof shoes. But what the author Verena Friederike Hasel is about is that the world our children are growing into will probably be rather uncomfortable, major upheavals are imminent, whether you think about the enormous progress in AI development or climate change. It is all the more important that children and young people are adequately prepared for this in schools. Not by cramming isolated specialist knowledge, but by learning to learn, i.e. independent thinking, the ability to understand connections independently. By gaining confidence in their own abilities and at the same time developing an understanding that one can often get much further through cooperation than with egocentric tunnel vision.
