Verdict of the Expert Council: Government violates climate protection law

IBasically, it was to be expected: Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had already presented a “climate protection program” with 130 measures across all policy areas in June. The controversial heating law was just one of them: “Complete the building energy law project (GEG) in this legislative period,” it said laconically in program item 3.4.2.7.

But even then, Habeck had to admit that even this demanding program was not enough. “We are closing the climate protection gap that the previous government left us by up to 80 percent,” Habeck said when the program was presented. “Our climate target for 2030 is within reach for the first time.” But that’s just not enough. The Climate Protection Act says nothing about trying, striving or approaching: Fulfillment is required.
