Verdict in the mask trial: Tandler sentenced to four years and five months in prison – Bavaria

The Munich entrepreneur and CSU politician’s daughter Andrea Tandler has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison in two cases for tax evasion worth millions. The verdict was handed down on Friday morning after a two-month trial at the Munich I Regional Court. The prison sentence does not come as a surprise; the judge and defense attorney had previously agreed on a punishment range of four years and several months.

Towards the end of the trial, Tandler admitted that he had not correctly taxed high commissions for transactions with corona masks and had therefore withheld 7.8 million euros from the tax authorities. At the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020, the advertising entrepreneur arranged large-scale mask deliveries between the Swiss company Emix and German health ministries. To do this, she used her contacts in the CSU – Tandler is the daughter of the former CSU general secretary Gerold Tandler. She received almost 50 million euros for the mediation, some of which she illegally taxed.

Tandler’s companion Darius N. was also sentenced to prison. The Munich restaurateur has to go to prison for three years and nine months. He founded a company together with Tandler in order to subsequently tax the millions in commission as a GmbH. They had registered this in the Grünwald tax haven, even though the company headquarters was actually in Munich. The public prosecutor’s office and the court viewed this as trade tax evasion.

Tandler and N. largely admitted the allegations as part of a deal. They have now paid back the evaded taxes. Both have been in custody since January. Tandler called the months in prison “the worst experience of my life.” The 40-year-old suffers from an intestinal disease and had to undergo surgery twice while in prison, and another operation is necessary.
