A man in Wales has been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison for killing a 16-year-old daughter in revenge on an acquaintance.
A court in the city of Merthyr Tydfil found the 32-year-old guilty of murder and attempted murder on Friday. He had also seriously injured the girl’s stepfather in the attack at the mother’s fast food restaurant.
The background was a dispute over debts. The victim’s family had entrusted the man with £ 20,000 (€ 23,400), which he was supposed to give to their relatives in China. However, the 32-year-old gambled away the majority and then owed the family £ 14,000. The bloody act on March 5th caused a sensation nationwide.
“The cruel and carefully planned and executed motive for revenge is clearly an essential, aggravating characteristic in itself,” emphasized the judge. The 16-year-old didn’t do him any harm at all. “You will be in your 60s before you can apply for a release. That will be in 2051, “said the judge. “But the fact that you can then be released does not mean that you will actually be released. You will never leave prison unless it is deemed safe and appropriate. “
