Verdi wants 10.5 percent more money for state employees – politics

In the upcoming collective bargaining, the unions want to enforce wage increases of 10.5 percent for around 1.2 million employees in the federal states with a term of the collective agreement of twelve months. The service union Verdi and the German Civil Service Association (dbb) said that there must be at least an increase in salaries of 500 euros per month.

The demand is on the same level as the ideas with which the unions entered into collective bargaining for the federal and local governments. A collective agreement was reached there in April, which, according to Verdi calculations, provides for a gradual increase of 11 to a good 16 percent for most employees over a period of two years – depending on the level of pay.

Negotiations with the collective bargaining community of the states are scheduled to begin on October 26th. An agreement is not expected before the third round of negotiations, scheduled for December 7-8.

A collective agreement will then apply to more than three million people. In addition to collective bargaining employees, according to Verdi, 1.2 million state civil servants and 175,000 municipal civil servants are also indirectly affected, as well as around a million pensioners. You benefit from a collective agreement if the respective countries transfer a tariff increase to you. For example, federal state employees work in road construction, in the judiciary, in financial and tax authorities, in daycare centers and schools, at universities, clinics and in administration.
