Warning strike at Frankfurt Airport hits travelers – cancellations and delays on Thursday

“Our goal is to sustainably compensate for the loss of purchasing power of employees. The work of the aviation security forces must remain financially attractive so that the urgently needed skilled workers can be recruited and retained. “That is why the price increases of the last two years, especially those for food and energy, as well as the forecast price increase in 2024 must be offset and there must be a real increase in wages,” demands Verdi negotiator Wolfgang Pieper.

Collective bargaining will continue on February 6th and 7th, 2024 in Berlin.

Strike at Frankfurt Airport: cancellations and delays threaten on Thursday

Verdi himself has so far only announced a statement for late Tuesday afternoon (January 30th). But what does it mean when security personnel go on strike? If this were to happen, it would no longer be possible to check passengers, employees or goods that have to go into the security areas of Germany’s largest airport. This is likely to bring air traffic to a standstill not only in Frankfurt, but also in large parts of the Republic.

Among other things, the union is demanding more Salary for the employees. So far there has been no agreement in three rounds of negotiations. Further discussions are planned for next week. (nhe/csa)
