In the collective bargaining dispute at Lufthansa, the Verdi service union has again called on the company’s ground staff to go on strike. Accordingly, the employees should stop work from Tuesday from 4 a.m. to Wednesday at 7:10 a.m., the union said. The airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne-Bonn and Stuttgart are affected.
Lufthansa improved its offer last week. According to the company, it provides ten percent more money in the next twelve months. The union is demanding 12.5 percent more salary and at least 500 euros per month for a term of twelve months for the 25,000 Lufthansa employees on the ground. There is also a dispute about inflation compensation premiums and various surcharges.
This is the second strike by Lufthansa ground staff this month
At the beginning of February, a 27-hour strike largely paralyzed flight operations at the Lufthansa hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. Around 900 of 1,000 planned flights were canceled, affecting around 100,000 passengers, according to Lufthansa.
The Lufthansa Group is currently not only worried about the ground staff, but also about the pilots. Since Saturday and until Monday evening, the Verband Cockpit (VC) union has been calling for a three-day strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines. However, this is a relatively small strike. The relatively small holiday airline, with 24 Airbus jets and around 420 pilots, departs exclusively from Frankfurt and Munich. Before the strike began, the company announced that it wanted to offer two thirds of the flights.
