Ver.di calls on Lufthansa Technik to go on a warning strike lasting several days

In the collective bargaining dispute over Lufthansa ground staff, ver.di has called for a warning strike lasting several days in the technology sector from Wednesday. Passenger flights should not be affected this time, according to the union.

There will be another strike at Lufthansa from Wednesday: the employees of individual companies in the group have been called on to go on a three-day nationwide warning strike until Friday, the ver.di union announced.

The strike call applies to employees and trainees at Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Aviation Training and Lufthansa Technical Training. Employees of Lufthansa Technik Logistik and Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services would join the work stoppage at different times depending on the location.

According to ver.di, passenger flights will not be affected by the strike this time. Therefore, the extent of the work stoppage is also smaller.

So far, ver.di has led two warning strikes lasting more than a day during the conflict, with several hundred flights canceled each time. Most recently, a one-day warning strike by ground staff at Germany’s largest airline took place on February 20th. The majority of Lufthansa flights were canceled at a total of seven German airports – around 100,000 passengers were affected.

Ver.di: Offer hardly improved

Immediately after the warning strike, the company management and ver.di negotiated salary increases again. However, Lufthansa has “basically only improved its offer to ground staff in two areas,” explained ver.di.

The group sees it differently: “We have once again taken a big step towards ver.di and presented a new, even improved offer,” Human Resources Director Michael Niggemann recently announced.

An agreement between the collective bargaining parties failed last Thursday. Ver.di is demanding a pay increase of 12.5 percent for its approximately 25,000 employees, but at least 500 euros more per month, and an inflation bonus of 3,000 euros for just one year. The already agreed fifth hearing date will take place on March 13th and 14th.
