Venice Film Festival: Cry into the Abyss – Culture

The 21st century is sometimes terribly unnerving for someone who can still clearly remember the past. For example, things are digitized that would somehow work more easily in analog form, often even faster; greed has been promoted to a part of human nature as if it were a necessity like occasional urination; and concepts are constantly being turned upside down until they no longer mean anything. The latest example: Agnieszka Holland’s film “Green Border”, which is about refugees on the border between Poland and Belarus, has just premiered in competition at the 80th Venice Film Festival. The Polish politician Zbigniew Ziobro, who is regarded as the architect of the judicial reform, then posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the film resembled the propaganda hodgepodge of the “Third Reich”, in which the Poles were portrayed as bandits.
