Venice Biennale 2024: Around the corner please – culture

When a hundred people demonstrated for Palestine and against “genocide” in the Giardini of the Venice Biennale on Wednesday, they did not have to contend with the long walks that sometimes drive Biennale visitors to despair. The pavilions of Israel, the USA and Germany, the most important recipients of the demonstrators, are within a hundred meter radius. In the Giardini, like in the UN Security Council, the hierarchy of the global post-war order still prevails. Only 29 countries are represented there. The only African country is Egypt. From Asia, only South Korea and Japan are included. The other 60 or so participating countries either find accommodation at the Arsenale or have to look for something somewhere in the city.
