Vaterstetten: Telephone fraudsters loot gold bars and jewelry – Ebersberg

With a lousy scam, fraudsters stole six-figure gold bars and jewelry from an elderly woman from Vaterstetten on Tuesday. This was reported by the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North on Thursday.

The woman, in her 80s, had received what police call a “shock call.” The strangers had called her later in the evening and, through skilful conversation, made her believe that her son had been involved in an accident. He could only be saved by procuring an expensive drug, which had to be specially delivered from the USA. The elderly woman, who was under such pressure, then took gold bars and jewelry from her safe deposit box and handed them over to one of the perpetrators. The Erding criminal police have taken over the investigation.

In general, the police recommend a healthy level of mistrust: Never give out information about valuables when making calls like this and end the call as quickly as possible.
